But community centres are being hit especially hard by the energy crisis. Energy retrofit, renewable heating, and renewable generation, can reduce running costs and climate impact - and there is funding available for both surveys and installation.
At the turn of the year, the amount of low-carbon generation in the energy mix broke records (again), hitting 87.6% of the total. We’re Hiring - Energy Simulations Lead
Join our team designing the net-zero local energy system of the future. Scene is recruiting an engineer to lead our energy simulations work in pioneering the transition to net-zero. You will work alongside our solutions architect and software developers in a 5-person "ZUoS" tech team - based out of Edinburgh, on a 3, 4 or 5 day a week basis. It is expected you will have at least 3 years' professional or post-graduate experience in energy systems modelling, analysis and optimisation.
We’re Hiring - Full Stack Developer
Scene is recruiting 1 full-stack web software developer with a focus on back-end development with a passion for the net-zero transition. You will work alongside our existing developers, a solutions architect and engineer in a 5 person tech team in Edinburgh, on a 3, 4 or 5 day a week basis.
Working with our consultancy and innovation teams, the Designer will be responsible for producing technical designs for low carbon projects, contributing to the design of our software products, and supporting company marketing and branding. Responsibilities will include gathering user requirements and feedback, processing data (e.g., mapping, user feedback), designing graphic elements, and producing online and offline resources. To be successful in this role, you should have experience with design software, wireframe tools and mapping packages. In addition, you will provide support across the business with graphics and branding.
Backed by Innovate UK and supported by a consortium of leading European and Rwandan businesses, Scene launched Africa’s first Evolving Grid with a local energy market in Rwanda earlier this year.
A concurrence of political, environmental, and economic factors have led to an uncertain picture of how exactly the UK will meet its increasingly complicated and growing energy demand over the next few months. At Scene, we think that a combination of these will be needed to future-proof and decarbonise the UK’s energy system.
