Salary Range: £23,000 - £27,000

Scene is a leading low carbon consultancy, specialising in the renewable energy sector. Our work is focused around three core activities: impact research, consultancy services to communities, and R&D in local energy / energy access.

 Job Description

Working with our consultancy and innovation teams, the Designer will be responsible for producing technical designs for low carbon projects, contributing to the design of our software products, and supporting company marketing and branding. Responsibilities will include gathering user requirements and feedback, processing data (e.g., mapping, user feedback), designing graphic elements, and producing online and offline resources. To be successful in this role, you should have experience with design software, wireframe tools and mapping packages. In addition, you will provide support across the business with graphics and branding.

 You should be able to demonstrate skills and experience in:

  •  Technical Design: understanding the basis for technical graphics production, including energy, low carbon, and environmental graphic design. Data sourcing, processing, and presentation of geographic and technical elements for low carbon feasibility and planning, as well as national and international low carbon research.

  • User-centric design: ability to gather and evaluate user requirements; Interpret data and qualitative feedback; Prepare and present drafts to internal teams and key stakeholders; Conduct usability testing and layout adjustments based on user feedback.

  • Strong brand identity and market differentiation: planning and conducting research and competitor analysis; creating or illustrating design ideas user stories, personas, storyboards, process flows and sitemaps; developing and adhering to style standards on fonts, colours, and images.

  • Design expertise: designing graphic outputs, including technical and non-technical content for offline and online use.

  • Developing UI mock-ups and prototypes that clearly illustrate how sites function and look.

  • Create original graphic design (e.g., images, sketches, leaflets etc).

  • Identifying and troubleshooting data, design and UX issues.

 

Qualifications & Experience

  • 1+ years of relevant experience

  • Knowledge of design tools like Adobe XD

  • Knowledge of graphics packages like Adobe Suite or Affinity Suite

  • Knowledge of mapping software packages like QGIS, ArcGIS or MapInfo

  • Excellent IT skills, including Microsoft Office and use of tools like GitHub and Slack

  • Experience or interest in energy, environmental, and climate issues
